I passed by Shepard Fairey's May Day mural again yesterday around 4:00 in the afternoon. They seemed to be wrapping it up. Fairey was shaking hands with well-wishers and passersby and doing interviews. I took one pic from across East Houston because I didn't want to get too close up again and be mistaken for an obsessed fan-girl. Don't forget, the mural is a part of Fairey's upcoming May Day show at Deitch Projects scheduled for May 1-29th. Learn more about May Day at Deitch.com.
This will sadly be the last show at the 14-year-old gallery as Jeffrey Deitch was appointed the new Director for the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art. His first exhibition at LA MOCA scheduled for July 11th will be Art Is Life, a survey of works by the ailing actor/artist Dennis Hopper, curated by his long-time friend, Julian Schnabel. If Hopper's show Signs of the Times at Tony Shafrazi last September is any indication, Art Is Life will be a definite must-see! Learn more about the upcoming exhibition at latimesblogs.latimes.com.
