Good news: for those still looking for weekend plans, today kicks off New York Gallery Week!
Over 50 galleries and not-for-profits uptown, downtown, east, and west are participating and will open their doors on their usual days off - Sunday and
Monday - with a variety of free events. A sample of events includes: an artist talk with Richard Galpin at The Highline and a book signing with Dana Schutz at Zach Feuer today; a guided tour of the Jockum Nordstrom and Mamma Andersson exhibit at David Zwirner and artist talk with Ian Kiaer and Uta Barth at Tanya Bonakdar on Saturday; a brunch auction at White Columns, performance by Tare De Long at Maccarone, and artist talk with Trisha Donelly and Anthony Huberman at Casey Kaplan on Sunday; and a closing night party at Santos Party House hosted by Taxter & Spengemann at 10:30 pm on Monday.
New York Gallery Week is the brain-child of gallery owners Casey Kaplan, David Zwirner and Friedrich Petzel. The trio think galleries need to be more accessible to the masses with "museum quality programming." You can see a video of Kaplan discussing New York Gallery Week on Artlog.com. See newyorkgalleryweek.com for a full listing of events. Enjoy the weekend!
