Here's the second half of my post on Lush Life, a multi-gallery exhibition curated by Franklin Evans and Omar Lopez-Chahoud featuring the works of 60 artists. Named after and inspired by Richard Price's 2008 novel set in the Lower East Side, the group exhibition is presented in nine neighborhood galleries - each focusing on one of the nine chapters from the book. Chapters 5-9 are on view at Y Gallery, Collette Blanchard, Salon 94, Scaramouche, and Eleven Rivington, respectively. The first and last galleries on this list host the smallest of the shows, with Y Gallery, housed in a tiny basement space, displaying works by three artists and Eleven Rivington exhibiting four in the gallery's office.
Checking out Lush Life is not only a great way to see artwork by up-and-coming as well as more established artists, it's also a fun way to explore the Lower East Side. The exhibition's website has a handy map showing the locations of all the participating galleries, and all the galleries should have copies available as well. Lush Life is a good opportunity to get out and experience the ever-changing LES neighborhood that plays a pivotal role in the book. Learn more at lushlifeles.com. See my post on Chapters 1-4 below.
