For more than twenty years photographer Tiziano Magni has been shooting some of the most super supermodels for spreads in the top glossies and high profile ad campaigns for prestigious fashion, beauty, and automotive clients. Magni is the lensman responsible for the famous Kate Moss and Marky Mark (sans Funky Bunch) ads for Calvin Klein from the 90s. IERI, OGGI, DOMANI (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow) at Milk Gallery presents a survey of his work spanning from the 1980's to the present. Magni's photos display his "relentless pursuit for the subtle subversive dominance with in each of his subjects" while "challenging the viewer to appreciate the harmony in both beauty and strength" (from the press release). While unique and striking in its own right, elements of Magni's work slightly remind me of Jean-Paul Goude's exaggerated human bodies or Helmut Newton's penchant for kink.
Born in Italy in 1953, Magni started taking pictures at the age of twelve. At fourteen he bought his first photography tome, Sam Haskins' iconic Cowboy Kate, and at twenty-one began shooting for Italian Vogue. As the press release for IERI, OGGI, DOMANI accurately sums up, "Passion, strength, emotion, and power combined with raw sensual energy are the ingredients that have fueled Tiziano Magni's work for over 20 years."
